Week 2 Fantasy QB Sleeper - Flashback - Kerry Collins Rips The Tennessee Titans For 375 Yds and 5 TD’s

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Since taking over in the first game of 2008, Kerry Collins has been the consumate game manager. But what about his stats? For a QB who reeled off the best record in the NFL, finishing 13-3, you would expect more Manning or Brady numbers, right?

In the 2008-2009 season, Kerry Collins threw a whopping 12 touchdowns. Not exactly stats you want to build your fantasy team around. But, this year has potential to be much better. With additions of Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, and a steadily improving Justin Gage, Collins will have plenty of chances for arial assaults on weaker defensive backs. This week’s matchup against the Texans has the potential to be Collins’ first offensive break out game.

Titans fans should remember better than anyone that Kerry Collins can rack up the points when given the chance. Just look back at the 2004 game when Collins, the QB for the Oakland Raiders, torched the Titans for 375 yds and 5 touchdowns.

2004 Titans v. Raiders Stats

Expect an excited fan base this week as the Titans host their first home opener of the regular season. Traditionally, the Titans v. the Texans always proves to be an exciting game with a barn burner thrown in there every now and again. In Week 1 of the 2009 season, Jets rookie Matt Sanchez was able to toss 272 yds and a TD last week versus the Texans. Imagine what an experienced vet like Collins behind a top offensive line might do. If you’re looking for a second starter at QB this week in fantasy football, Collins may be your man.

PRODUCER’S CUT - QB Controversy Brewing In Houston?

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Off to an 0-2 start, the Houston Texans have already played below expectations. With much of the hype going into the season surrounding the upstart defense, the offense has stolen the show. In the two losses, starter Matt Schaub has been ineffective.

2008 Schaub Stats

WK 1 - 202 yds, 1 TD 2 INT
WK 3 - 188 yds, 0 TD 3 INT

Granted, the Titans have maybe the most dominant defense in the NFL, but the Texans also boast one of the most dangerous receivers in Andre Johnson. In week 3, Johnson was a no-show. Coach Kubiak came off a rough week with the invasion of Hurricane Ike and a surprise bye week. But, if the offense doesn’t get it together, the hopes of a winning season may be blown away as well.

Many in Texas are already calling for a change in quarterback. Last year, Sage Rosenfels came in to lead the Texans to a 4-1 record while throwing 15 TD’s. In comparison, Schaub’s career season best was 9 TD’s. How long will Schaub remain the starter? Unless Schaub can bounce back with a win in Week 4, don’t be surprised to see Rosenfels get some playing time.
