PRODUCER’S CUT - Vince Young - When I Play Again, You’ll Love My Sausage

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Vince Young Foods

As if the Vince Young drama hasn’t taken enough turns, now a sausage has entered the picture. Launched a week before his on-field meltdown, Vince Young’s sausage was sorry to see him benched. VinceYoungSausage.com is part of Vince’s diversification in the trade of celebrity status. Selling sausage, brisket, and ribs, Vince Young has now crossed over into the ever-present celebrity food business.

The Titans Don’t Understand His Problem

As documented in reports, the Titans attempted to identify Vince’s emotional troubles by a “talk” with a team psychologist. And Vince promptly left the premises only to be found as a missing person by Metro Police. Yeah, that worked good.

Everybody with a microphone has blasted what they think is wrong. But have they thought about the sausage?

Enter Gordon Ramsey

My suggestion, because Vince’s emotional panic and the launch of his sausage seemed to have a strange correlation in timing, the Titans owe Vince Young a visit from the only psychologist who can tell him what he needs to hear, enter Chef Gordon Ramsey. Maybe an episode in Hell’s Kitchen would wake Vince up enough to make him realize there’s only one thing he should be thinking about, football.

But what would be Chef Ramsey’s advice? Here are just a few I came up with:

1. Never, and I mean NEVER, have your name and sausage in the same sentence, domain, label, or article.
2. If you’re going to launch a food product, start with something that matches your brand - example, “VY Butter - Spread Made Easy”, “Vince’s Wing Sauce - The Hottest In Texas”, (insert your example here).
3. Learn to stand up to your momma.
4. Focus on quality first. If you have fancy decorations but crappy food, no one will come back.
5. Never leave the serving line to cry. There’s no crying in cooking and there sure as %@$# ain’t no crying in the NFL!!
6. No one will respect you if you don’t respect yourself (VinceYoungSausage??) You’re a ^%#$%#^ football player for #&@^@*@ sake’s!!!
7. When the pressure’s on, it’s your time to shine. Everyone is equal until the heat is turned up. That’s when true talent shines.
8. Never attach the word sausage to your name. Sorry, I know I’ve already said that but it bears repeating to get it through your *#&%@&*$# head!
9. *#&#^& or get off the pot.
10. Take it back to the basics and where it all began. Don’t make it too complicated. Think simple.

PRODUCER’S CUT - Titans Have More To Worry About Than Vince Young

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

All the attention this week has been directed towards the Vince Young situation, but there’s a bigger concern brewing in Titans camp. On Thursday, Coach Jeff Fisher was quoted by the AP saying in regards to Albert Haynesworth, “when you have the mild concussion symptoms, you have to not put him in any situations where he’d be involved in any collisions for a few days, so we’re waiting.” This is a bad sign for Titans fans.

Coming off a dominant season in 2007, Albert Haynesworth has become the anchor to the league’s 5th ranked defense. In week 1’s pummeling of the Jaguars run game (held to 39 yards), Haynesworth contributed 2 sacks and plenty of havoc for the Jaguars banged up offensive line.  Albert’s 2 sacks last week vaulted him to within 4 sacks of his 2007 total of 6 which was a career best. If his health is a concern, the Titans defense may be in trouble.

In 2007, the 5th ranked Titans defense only allowed an average of 14.47 points per game when Haynesworth was in the lineup compared to an unbelievable 32.33 yards when he wasn’t.

When evaluating which story matters most, Young’s troubles or Haynesworth’s concussion, the statistics tell us the Titans main concern should be “what will happen if Haynesworth goes down?”

PRODUCER’S CUT - Vince Young v. Jason Campbell - Who Would You Take?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Vince Young or Jason Campbell, do I really have to choose? The NFL season has already begun and we know one thing, Jason Campbell is probably not at the top of anyone’s list of threatening quarterbacks.

After a lackluster performance in the opener against the Giants, Campbell is making a case for riding the pine. His statistics seemed generous compared to his performance, 15/27 for 133 yards and 1 TD. When you look back at his statistics for the previous two years, you have to wonder, is this just more of the same?

Jason Campbell

2006 1,297 yds passing 10 TD 6 INT 107 rushing
2007 2,700 yds passing 12 TD 11 INT 185 rushing

Going into the weekend, you have to be nervous for Vince Young as well. The deck is stacked against him against Jacksonville. Not only does Tennessee have one of the worst passing attacks in the league, they haven’t scored a rushing TD against the Jaguars in the last 5 matchups. I would say 200 yards passing would be a goal worth shooting for in the opener, but at this point, no interceptions might be more reasonable.

Vince Young

2006 2,199 yds passing 12 TD 13 INT 552 yards rushing * 7 rushing TD’s
2007 2,546 yds passing 9 TD 17 INT 392 yards rushing * 3 rushing TD’s

The battle between who can play worse has begun. Vince Young, let’s see what you got!
